What they offer

Guy Yeaman, known to his clients as the Dog Man, says he has worked with dogs professionally for over 50 years. His group obedience classes run through local municipal recreation departments in Gardnerville, Carson City, Reno, Sparks, Stateline, Incline Village and South Lake Tahoe: one hour a week for six weeks, for dogs at least four months old and fully vaccinated. Classes cover basic and advanced obedience, and his teaching also includes Canine Good Citizen, security dogs and guide dogs.

Private and inboard training

Private lessons take place at the owner's home or another convenient spot, so problems are worked on where they happen: aggression, anxiety, excessive barking, leash pulling and similar concerns. Inboard training, where the dog stays with him, runs six to twelve weeks, and the owner attends a group class alongside it to learn the same handling.

How he trains

His basic tenet is repetition and praise: the dog is asked for a behavior, shown how if needed, and praised when it complies. He prefers to be contacted by telephone, and says mornings are usually best.
