About Heyer Canine Learning LLC

Services

The published options are "Puppy Training", "Loose Leash Walking", "Behavior Challenges", "Other Training" and a dedicated "Separation anxiety" strand.

Approach

The trainer introduces herself as "Laura Heyer, a professional dog trainer serving Northern and Western Fairfax County, Virginia" and publishes four commitments. Plans are individual: "I craft plans based on your dog, your life and your long-term goals." Both ends of the leash are trained: "I believe in teaching both ends of the leash." The method is force free: "I am a force free trainer. That doesn't mean I believe that whatever your dog wants to do is okay, but it does mean I don't rely on fear or discomfort to help your dog learn." And she is explicit about what cannot be promised: "I won't make promises about behavior. No one can make guarantees about another living being."

Credentials

Unusually for the trade, the credentials are named and the reason is stated: "Dog training is currently unregulated. Anyone can call themselves a trainer. I am a KPA Certified Professional Dog trainer, a Tellington TTouch practitioner, A Certified Separation Anxiety Pro Trainer and even a licensed teacher!"
