About K-9 Companions Nashville

K-9 Companions is a dog-training company that states it has been operating since 1979 and has been in Nashville since 2010, with the Middle Tennessee site described as its national headquarters.

What they publish

The flagship program is K-9 Bootcamp: the dog trains in the kennel for two to four weeks, and then the owner and dog are trained together for the following four months, both at the facility and at the owner's home – a follow-up period considerably longer than anything else published in this cluster. Around it sit all-breed obedience and manners courses covering housebreaking, chewing, digging, jumping on people, rushing doors and gates, boundaries, place and leash pulling; Canine Good Citizen testing; service dog training; and therapy dog training. There is also a trainer-certification course for people who want to enter the profession, and the company says it is now franchising.

Service dogs and veterans

Service-dog work is a distinct line of business here rather than a mention. The site describes training dogs for veterans with physical injuries as well as PTSD, TBI and MST, and states that non-profit funding is available for qualifying veterans with PTSD or TBI within the continental United States.

How the training runs

The published philosophy is positive reinforcement and motivation, with the stated intention that training stays enjoyable for the dog and leaves its individuality intact. The company also publishes a celebrity and VIP client wall, and describes its trainers as internationally recognized with five books published on dog training.

Practical notes

The site sells training equipment through an Amazon affiliate storefront, which it discloses. Contact them for current pricing, availability and the exact location of the Mt. Juliet-area facility.
