What they offer

K.I.S.S. Dog Training is a one-person, in-home dog training business in Shawnee run by Mike Deathe, a CPDT-KA who founded it in 2010 after starting as a trainer in 2008. He handles every session, call and message himself, working with owners across the Kansas City area.

Sessions

Private in-home instruction is sold as packages of 45-minute sessions, customized to the client, covering topics such as resource control, attention, leash and recall training and dealing with distractions. Puppy packages, called Tiny Diamonds, cover common puppy issues, socialization and setting up the house for a new dog. Specialty sessions address reactivity on leash, aggression to people, and fear or aggression cases recommended by a vet. The FAQ lists aggression, fear, reactivity and separation anxiety as complex cases, priced separately.

How he trains

The about page describes positive reinforcement-based training in the dog's home, teaching and rewarding the right behaviors from the start, under the motto "Training Owners, Not Dogs." Clients get notes, videos and blog links after each session.

He is also an AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluator. In-home sessions run Monday to Thursday, with limited weekend appointments, and all pricing and policies are posted on the site.
