About KD’s K9 Training

What they offer

KD's K9 Training is run by a husband-and-wife team serving Newport and the surrounding towns. One trainer has trained family dogs professionally since 2019 and is an evaluator for the AKC and Pet Partners; the other, a nurse and Army veteran, helps with agility and wherever a calm dog is needed.

Classes

Obedience comes in three levels, puppy or beginner, intermediate and advanced, each adding new commands and challenges. Any level can end with an AKC evaluation, from STAR Puppy to Canine Good Citizen, Advanced CGC and Urban CGC. Agility classes start with the basics and build to running a full course, and scent work teaches a dog to find things on command, from trial scents to antlers or people; intermediate obedience is recommended first for both.

Service and therapy dogs

Service dog training helps owners teach task work for a handler with a disability, starting with an evaluation of the dog, and therapy dog classes and evaluations prepare dogs to visit libraries, hospitals and similar places. A paid consultation helps owners choose a class, and its cost comes off the class price.
