About On Command Dog Obedience Training
Obedience training in the Bitterroot
On Command Dog Obedience Training is owned and operated by Gary Kammerer out of Stevensville, who says he has run it for the past 29 years. He retired after 20 years of teaching school and began teaching people how to train their dogs. For 12 years he competed in AKC obedience, titling his dogs from Novice up to Utility, and he is a handler and evaluator for Pet Partners, which certifies therapy dog teams.
Services
Most of his work is personalized: consultations, problem dog sessions, individual obedience training, and service dog and therapy dog training, often held in clients' homes. At various times of the year he holds group basic obedience classes, usually in Missoula, Florence and Hamilton, and in spring advanced classes train for AKC obedience competition. His goal is to teach owners to train their own dogs and make it fun, and he follows up with clients after sessions. Early training uses small food rewards that are weaned off as skills become routine.
What owners say
One Stevensville client wrote that Gary helped her achieve the AKC Companion Dog (CD) title, and another called his approach "calm and professional."
