Puppies Are Wonderful Sidekicks Training and Behavior Modification LLC — PAWS — is Amber Aben's

"PAWS is a dog training company that can help you with all of your dog training needs; from basic

obedience and advanced obedience to serious behavior modification. I work with all dogs and breeds,

from the smallest toy to the largest giant; and almost all behavior problems, from housebreaking to

aggression. PAWS uses positive reinforcement to train and rehabilitate dogs to become the best

sidekick they can be."

How it works

Training happens in the client's home. "I work in your home and travel to Ann Arbor, Chelsea,

Clinton, Dexter, Grass Lake, Jackson, Manchester, and Saline. If your city or town isn't listed and

is near these areas, I probably travel to that area as well. I work within a 30 mile radius of

Chelsea, MI, but for a small travel fee may travel beyond that."

Every program starts the same way: "You get started with PAWS by scheduling your Free In-Home

Evaluation. I will come to your house, evaluate your dog, and make my recommendation for your dog

training program based on your specific needs." That evaluation "usually last for about 90 minutes",

and there is a charge for it if you live outside the training area.

What every program includes

"All of the Dog Training Programs start with a free in-home evaluation, and come with a training

booklet, training collar, summer socialization classes, and unlimited phone and email support for

the life of your dog. Also, if your dog regresses and reverts back to a behavior that was corrected

in your training, I will come back to your home for a free follow up session and re-address this

issue." Payment plans are available on request.

Programs

– **Basic Obedience Program** — "in 5 sessions, basic obedience commands such as come, sit, down,

sit-stay, down-stay, and heel. These commands will allow you to have fairly good control over your

dog on leash. This program also includes the Problem Solving Program."

– **Puppy Program** — for puppies 8 to 16 weeks, six sessions spaced every two weeks, "a stronger

focus on preventing unwanted behaviors" including housetraining, jumping, destructive chewing,

play biting and barking.

– **Problem Solving Program** — included at no extra cost in the Basic Obedience and Puppy programs;

covers jumping up, running out of doors, house accidents and the like. "Your dog may not need dog

obedience training for a minor behavior problem, and only need one or two sessions to solve this

problem."

– **Behavior Modification Program** — "the elimination or management of a complex or dangerous

behavior. This includes aggression, separation anxiety, phobias, and compulsive disorders." It

requires the Basic Obedience Program first and "depending on the severity of the behavior may

require additional sessions."

– **Advanced Obedience Program** — "will show you how to get control over your dog in a variety of

situations off leash."

– **Summer Socialization Class** — runs June to August, open to clients who have completed at least

four in-home sessions and paid in full. "There is no need to RSVP; please stop by on the evenings

you can make it."

The trainer

"my name is Amber Aben and I am the owner and operator of PAWS. In 2005 I graduated from Animal

Behavioral College, and began working immediately as a Dog Behaviorist. I have worked with hundreds

of dogs and a variety of training goals." Her own dog Charlie Brown, a Chesapeake Bay Retriever, was

born in 2016 and features throughout the site's blog.
