Red Hydrant Inn and Playground in Yankton offers daycare, boarding, grooming and training. It opened in March 2018, and Clay and Rachel Stoddard took over in March 2020. The couple have been training dogs since 2012 through their training business, DogSense, and also do pet therapy work.

Approach

Training focuses on positive reinforcement and fun games to shape and build desired behaviors, with each session tailored to a dog's personality, learning pace and goals. Owner involvement is encouraged so skills carry over at home, and trainers work on leash pulling, separation anxiety, excessive barking and fear-based behaviors.

Programs and prices

Puppy Foundation is $150 for 5 weeks, for puppies 16 weeks to 6 months. Life Skill Obedience is $300 for 6 weeks of games-based learning. Private training is $500 for 5 weeks at Red Hydrant or $650 for 5 weeks in home, with a custom plan. Board and Train is $2300 for 3 weeks of intensive work while the dog stays, with daycare when appropriate. Group classes, private training and board and train each start with a free consult.
