About Reyning Canines
Reyning Canines is a Skaneateles-area dog trainer built around in-home private training rather than a class facility. Every program begins with a comprehensive initial evaluation — recommended in the home, available over Zoom for clients further out — which the business describes as “an in-depth assessment of your dog’s behavior, environment, and history” producing “a personalized training plan focused on providing immediate relief and long-term success”, with written support materials and ongoing support by email, phone and text.
Training programs
After the evaluation, training is sold either a la carte or in packages. Individual sessions are $150 as a pay-as-you-go option. The packages are named the Reyning Basic at $450 for three in-home sessions, the Reyning Standard at $825 for six, and the Reyning Elite at $1,100 for eight. For owners who want the work done while they are busy, Workin’ 9-K9 is day training at $250 for a single day, $900 for four and $1,700 for eight, and the business notes that an owner transfer session is included in the eight-day option — the handover back to the owner is part of the product, not an add-on. A Board & Train option, described as “a little training bootcamp”, runs at $250 a day and includes daily training sessions, outdoor excursions, a private suite and photo and video updates.
Approach
The business states its philosophy plainly on its home page: its mission is “to hold space for BOTH ends of the leash”, and it says it believes “that great training is not one-size-fits-all—it’s a creative collaboration rooted in trust, playfulness, and respect.” It describes tailoring each plan “to the unique needs, temperament, and learning style of every dog, while honoring the goals and lifestyle of their humans”, and gives its own examples of the work: “building confidence in a shy rescue, refining manners in a spirited puppy, or strengthening the bond between dog and owner”.
Who runs it
The founder is Samantha Rey. Her own about page describes a lifelong involvement in rescue, work with rescue organizations in Los Angeles as a foster coordinator, and more than fifteen fostered dogs, before she left corporate work in 2025 to train full time. She states that she “graduated from the CATCH Canine Trainers Academy as a certified dog trainer (CCDT)” and continues with workshops and advanced coursework. That credential is the trainer's own account.
Other services
Alongside training the business offers client-only services: boarding in a private suite at $85 a night, and a Daycare Dropout Club — “for dogs who were never meant to follow the crowd” — which is individualized daytime care for dogs that do not thrive in group daycare, priced by half day and full day with multi-day packs. Reyning Adventures are real-world outings at a $95 flat rate including pickup, dropoff, an adventure map and photos. A Reyning Regulars annual membership at $399 carries discounts and priority booking, with the business careful to state that priority booking “provides early access only. It does not guarantee availability”.
Where it works
Ask for a street address if you need one. The town its pricing names is Skaneateles, in the Reyning Adventures rate — a $95 flat rate with a “$10 fee outside 10mi of Skaneatles” — and its phone number uses the Skaneateles 315-685 exchange.
