A training shop in Elk River

Shooting Star Services is a pet shop and training business at 13499 Business Center Drive in Elk River, with the motto "Making Sit happen since 2012." Owner April Franz describes a path from kennel staff and vet tech work to pet sitting and training, rebuilding her business through several moves as a Navy spouse before settling in Minnesota in 2019. She opened the Elk River facility in March 2024, offering training, grooming and supplies. Her stated mission is to give dogs, "especially those that others overlook," a place to belong.

Training and prices

All six-week classes are $300, including Basic Obedience, which covers 14 essential commands, and Canine Good Citizen (with an optional therapy dog test), CGC Community and CGC Urban. Stop-in classes are $20 per dog and pack walks $10 per family. Private sessions are $75 per hour in the store and start at $100 per hour off site.

Other services

Boarding on nearly an acre of fenced outdoor space is $35 a day for the first dog and $30 for each additional dog, and in-home pet sitting runs $40 to $60 for one to three daily visits. Basic grooming starts at $50 for the first hour, and the shop stocks food, treats, toys and training tools.
