About Sit, Stay, Treat

Low-cost training built around keeping dogs in their homes

Sit, Stay, Treat has an origin story that drives its pricing. The site says the business "began from our passion for dog training and keeping families together," and describes noticing, while working at an animal shelter in 2016, that many people reaching out to give up their animals were doing so because of behavioral concerns combined with a lack of funds to get help. The stated response is deliberate: "we keep our prices low… You'll noticed our prices may be quite a bit lower than our competitors and that is purposeful so low income individual, families and their pets can get the assistance they need."

What is offered

Two tracks are listed – Private Coaching and Obedience Courses, the latter described as a six-week course – along with pages on training methods and partnerships. The site offers a free consultation it describes as a $75.00 value, and an adoption discount: show proof you adopted your dog and you get a free training session or one class free from the six-week course, which it describes as a $30.00 value. The team also says it volunteers with shelter dogs at weekends.

What clients describe

Reviews on the site point at reactivity work and at follow-up. One owner of two reactive lab mixes writes that "Carmen has been so wonderfully patient and has provided numerous techniques to apply which, over time and repetition, will help to reduce their reactivity," adding that each session is written up afterwards; another mentions follow-up emails recapping what was covered in class. Several note that "all of this is done with only positive reinforcement." The tagline on the site is "Breaking Stigmas, Building Bonds." The class booking entries on the site give the course location as 501 School St, Winslow, IL, and the site names Beast Buffet of Monroe, WI as a local partner supplying goodies for its obedience courses and in-home training.
