About Valkyrie K-9 Training

Who runs it

Valkyrie K-9 Training is based in Winchester, KY and trades under the line "Results That Last." The site is written as "we".

The method

The FAQ answers it directly: "We use a combination of behavior, operant, and immersion methods. We believe training should be fun and enjoyable for your dog, and just as individual. Praising each correct action gives us something to build on." And on tools: "We don't believe in teaching with fear or pain; we believe in working with your dog's natural desire to please."

What they offer

The program is residential and immersive: "Our training method is an immersive experience for your dog. We offer a hands-on, interactive program that puts your dog in real-life settings and situations — places they would be expected to perform in once they go back home." The site lists what the stay includes as its own headings: socialization, boarding, going on walks and playtime. For handlers in uniform it adds: "We are happy to help law enforcement and military personnel train their canine companion for their upcoming duties. We can help with such things as obedience, personal protection, search and rescue, and scent block training."

Who they take

"We are happy to train any breed of dog. Regardless of size or age." On age: "Each dog is different when it comes to how much they wish to please… it's never too late to teach your dog." Medication and special diets are administered at no extra charge.

Booking and money

A 25% deposit holds a date, and the site is blunt about why: "We simply cannot hold a time without a deposit." Payment is by "cash, credit or debit card, PayPal, and Venmo" — "We do NOT accept check or money order." Refunds are the exception, not the rule: "As a general rule, we do not offer refunds." In their place the site offers a lifetime guarantee: "If you ever need help with an aspect of your dog's training after they leave us, we are here for you."

A limit they state

"If it is found that your dog is too aggressive for us to be able to handle without you being present, we will work with you on alternative training options, but no refund of any deposit or training costs will be given (this is why we ask if your dog is aggressive beforehand)." A meet-and-greet can be scheduled before any money changes hands.

Before you book

Ask who will train your dog and whether they hold a certification.
