About Wilderness Kennels
Family kennel since 1968
Wilderness Kennels is a family owned boarding and training facility at 2030 Saltillo Rd in Roca, on the southwest edge of Lincoln. Henry Sader III and his wife Judy started it in 1968, and it is now operated by their son Henry IV, who began training by helping his parents and is credited with training for the last 50 years and roughly 5,000 dogs.
Training
Dogs stay at the kennel for the duration of training: around a month to a month and a half for basic obedience, 3 to 4 months for hunting and 4-6 months for service dog work. Owners come out to work with the trainer during the stay so they learn to handle the dog the way Henry does. Gun dog training starts with basics and moves to advanced work, using live birds for upland and waterfowl training. Prices are $1,200 a month for service dog training, $1,300 a month for obedience, $1,800 a month for gun and bird dog training and $1,300 for guard dog training. Dogs must be at least 7 months old.
Facility
The kennel holds 102 dogs, each with its own 20 ft run and doggy door, plus heated and climate controlled kennels, and grooming is available during a stay.
What owners say
One client wrote that her stubborn dog "came back a month later and was much better" at leash walking and the drop it command.
