About Furever K9, LLC

What it is

Furever K9 is a combined training center and boarding resort at 20690 Gleedsville Road in Leesburg. The site describes "our 9500 square foot Resort and Training center" set "on 7.5 acres in Leesburg, VA", able to accommodate 40 boarding dogs, with an on-site manager living in an attached apartment. It opened in October 2024, after the business outgrew an extension built onto the owner's own house.

Who runs it

Lauren White. Her account of how she got here is unusually candid – she opens by describing herself as a recovering bad dog owner and credits her Boston Terrier with pushing her into the profession after seven difficult years. She took a five-day course at The Dog Psychology Center in California, and describes the turning point as learning to communicate with dogs by first understanding herself. She then traveled repeatedly to learn from trainers around the country.

What they work on

The problem list on the front page is long and concrete: leash aggression or reactivity, jumping, counter surfing, pulling and lunging on walks, barking at people, dogs, the window, the doorbell and delivery drivers, crate anxiety, potty training at any age, fearful behavior, puppy training and basic manners.

Programs

Four training formats are published. Board and train, pitched at owners short on time, with a questionnaire used to tailor the program and a clear warning that the owner has to keep the work going at home. Private lessons, where "you can come to us or we can come to you" – the travel area is Loudoun County and parts of Fairfax County. Day training, a drop-off-and-collect arrangement with a report card. And group classes for puppies and adults, aimed at practice around other people and dogs.

Boarding

Worth knowing: boarding is gated on behavior. "We require all dogs to have a behavioral evaluation either by way of being our training client or with a scheduled evaluation." Boarding dogs get group play, an outdoor potty yard and a 4×6 suite with a Kuranda bed; add-ons and seasonal extras are listed. An annual Peace of Mind membership guarantees availability for existing, evaluated clients but does not cover the cost of boarding.

Good to know

The day training page still carries a "Coming in January 2024" note.
