Happy Tails Obedience School runs board and train from a home-based facility on a thirty-acre farm at Adel, in Cook County. The site describes itself as specializing in "balanced training", and the two programs are priced openly.

The programs

The two-week program is on-leash basic obedience at $1,150 and covers sit and stay, down and stay, the place command, loose leash heeling, crate manners and a public socialization trip. The three-week program is remote collar advanced obedience at $1,750 and adds off-leash recall, threshold manners and an out or drop command. Both prices include the training collar and the boarding for the stay, and both are open to puppies from sixteen weeks through to adult dogs of any age. Behavior modification is offered for jumping, nipping, barking, digging, resource guarding, confidence building, leash pulling, reactivity toward other animals and general hyperactivity. Boarding on its own is $30 per day per dog.

Conditions and setting

The facility is climate controlled with constant video security, and the site says dogs get frequent potty and play breaks. Two conditions are stated plainly: all dogs must be current on vaccinations with vet records supplied, and the business does not take human-aggressive dogs. Owners are sent home with a written training packet for the transition and are offered follow-up guidance at no extra charge.
