About Southern K9 Academy
What they do
Southern K9 Academy works across Moultrie and Valdosta and sells three programs plus private lessons. The site is explicit that it does not run a fixed curriculum: "We do not do the cookie cutter training. Whether it is private lessons or board & train program each is designed just for you and your dog."
The programs
The Essentials program is built for the do-it-yourself owner who wants the dog to fit into their life rather than the reverse. The All-Inclusive program is two phases, starting a puppy between nine and sixteen weeks on the basics and potty training and finishing with the Downtown program; the site says it carries a lifetime guarantee. The Downtown program is a six-week board and train aimed at manners — no jumping, door manners, crate training, minor reactivity — with repeated outings into downtown and other locations to work under high distraction. It includes a fifteen-foot training leash, an e-collar with a quick-release buckle, a buckle for the prong collar, a place bed, a two-hour send-home lesson and two further private handling classes, and graduates are invited to a monthly group class. Dogs finish knowing sit, down, stay, place and come, on and off leash.
Method and trainer
The academy calls itself balanced and explains what it means by that in plain terms on the home page. The trainer is named as Tim Glenn; the claims made about his certification are recorded as the business states them and are not verified here.
