About Mohawks Malinois

What they do

Mohawks Malinois is first a working-line Belgian Malinois breeding kennel and second a training operation, and the site is clear about both. On training it says: "Mohawks Malinois also offers private training for you and your partner. We'll help you hone in your Dog Sport skills or with your Police K9 while still having fun." The services block adds a wider range – "We offer all kinds of training for your dog. From basic pet obedience to high level Schutzhund training" – and the site's own strapline lists the offer as "Puppy and Dog Obedience – Personal Training – Monthly Training – Personal Protection – Sport & Police K9 Training."

The breeding side – puppies for sale, trained dogs, stud service – is published alongside it and is the larger part of the business.

Who runs it

The kennel is run by two co-founders the site names as **Mohawk John** and **Paula Daigle**. Their history is set out at length: they started in Schutzhund with Rottweilers and German Shepherds, bought their first Malinois in 2002 (Giltedge Glad ot Vitosha, "Tommy"), added Lola in 2003 and Falcon Regulus ("Ozzy") in 2004, and did their first breeding in 2005. John writes that he put a Sch2 and 25 Sch3 titles on Tommy "at Club, Regional, Nationals and World Championships," and states "I have been in the sport of Schutzhund for 20 years and Paula 15." Their club, "Motor City Working Dogs," is described as "an active Schutzhund and Police K9 club hosting both club trials and 3 Nationals Events."

They moved from Michigan to Bowling Green in 2010, buying 20 acres and, per the site, building a home and training center there. The About page is headed "Since 1995."

What they breed for

The stated aim is a dual-purpose dog: "Create and breed a very stable companion that will get any job done and still be good around kids and other house hold animals." Dogs are raised in the house – "All of our dogs are raised in the house from birth and are constantly socialized with adults, children and other animals" – and the site says dogs from the kennel are "currently in Search and Rescue, Police K9 and winning on the competition field." They have "sold many green/untrained dogs and fully trained protection and Police K9's," both single and dual purpose.

A note on scope

If you are looking for pet obedience, the site does say it is offered. But the center of gravity here is sport, protection and police work, and the training arm is described mostly as sharpening handlers who already have a working dog.
