About Kentucky Dog Training LLC

Who runs it

"Kentucky Dog Training LLC is a full service dog training company providing board and train programs to Lexington KY. Owner and head trainer, Sam Adams, has 11 years of experience training and competing with dogs in a variety of dog sports." The site says she "has trained more than 1000 dogs through her board and train program, and has also worked as a veterinary assistant and kennel manager for a specialty boarding kennel." The address given is 1991 Ironworks Rd, Winchester, KY 40391.

Her record, as the site states it

"Sam trains dogs in the sports of IGP and Mondioring, and competes nationally and internationally. Sam is a world team member in the sport of IGP, and is one of just 6 handlers to qualify to represent the United States this year at the Belgian Shepherd world championships. Sam was the reserve national champion at the 2023 Mondioring Nationals at the MR1 level with her dog Wild. This makes her the only person to owner-handle the same dog to a podium finish in both IGP and Mondioring." Her listed credentials are "World Team Member," "AKC CGC Evaluator," "UKC SPOT Evaluator" and "IACP Dog Trainer Foundation Certified."

The team

Kara "worked in wildlife rehabilitation and was responsible for training and managing a group of wolf dog hybrids," then became "a dog trainer and professional handler in the world of conformation." The site says "she has been the in-home boarding of choice for not just family pets, but for top show dogs and the police K-9's in Jessamine County." She is listed as an AKC CGC Evaluator and a Veterinary Technician.

What they offer

The flagship is named on the home page: "We offer a highly regarded Distraction Program that takes your dog through extensive training in three weeks. Your dog comes and stays with us for a three week board and train at our beautiful 8 acre facility in Winchester, KY. We teach them: sit, down, stay, come, place, heel, kennel, wait, break, and a solid system of reward and correction." Also listed in the site navigation: Day Training, Private Lesson Programs, Puppy Training, Snake Avoidance Training and Sport Dogs. On sport: "We also offer sport dog training for Mondioring and IGP. Training is available in club settings, as private sessions, or as long term board and trains."

Rewards, in her own words

Her blog sets out how she uses food: "With young puppies, I almost exclusively use their kibble for all training treats… When your puppy learns from a young age that kibble is a fun reward, you have the whole remainder of the scale to use for jackpots and higher level rewards."

Service area and waiting list

"We have locations in Winchester, KY and Lexington KY," with "Pick-ups and drop offs for board and train clients… available for those in greater Lexington, Frankfort, and Louisville," and in-home transition lessons included within the service area. Booking is slow: "We are normally on a 1-2 month wait for board and train programs, and suggest that you reach out 2 months in advance."
