Ability Dogs of Arizona
Overview
About Ability Dogs of Arizona
What they offer
Ability Dogs of Arizona opened in 1973 and describes itself as Arizona's only ADI-accredited owner-train service dog program. In its Phoenix-area program, people train their own dog under the guidance of instructors over 12 to 18 months, for tasks such as psychiatric support for veterans and civilians, seizure response and mobility assistance. It also trains facility dogs for schools, medical centers and courthouses, and certified teams can attend group lessons for as long as the dog serves.
Pet classes
The same instructors teach pet classes for puppies from 8 weeks and adult dogs, including basic obedience, CGC preparation, agility and one-on-one training. The site notes that ADI accreditation covers its assistance dog programs only, not the pet classes.
Where
All Phoenix-area pet classes meet at its air-conditioned training center in Tempe. Training is 100% positive reinforcement. Check the Phoenix class schedule for current sessions.
