About Bark-A-Bout Pet Activity Center & Resort

Who they are

Bark-A-Bout is at 14660 23 Mile Rd, Shelby Township, and has been open since 2009. It is a 30,000 square-foot pet resort: "Bark-A-Bout presents an unsurpassed pet resort experience where pampering meets exceptional care. Our state-of-the-art, 30,000 square-foot resort offers a variety of amenities, from our specialized Full-Day Enrichment Daycare Program to our luxury hotel for overnight stays." The stated mission since opening is "to continually provide pet owners peace of mind, by offering a luxurious resort dedicated to the highest industry standards in pet care, safety and education."

Training

Obedience training is one of five core services: "Old dogs can learn new tricks at Bark-A-Bout! We offer professionally taught obedience training programs for dogs of all ages, skill sets, and temperaments." The method is stated: "Bark-A-Bout's dog training classes focus on positive reinforcement methods, fostering a strong bond between you and your pet while instilling essential training skills." Classes and workshops are both offered.

How to enrol in a class

The process is published in three steps: create a Customer Portal through the Gingr for Pet Parents app or the web, sign the waivers including the Obedience Training Refund Policy Disclaimer, then call or visit to pay in full. Vaccination requirements are set out for Beginner Classes and up – Bordetella, age-appropriate distempers, and rabies for dogs six months and older, with a negative yearly fecal screening and two influenza bivalent vaccines highly recommended but not required – and "we require you to submit all vaccine documentation prior to the start of class." The refund policy is explicit: full payment at registration, full refunds only for cancellations more than 24 hours before the class starts, $60 deducted inside that window, and no refunds once the class has started. Note that training, grooming and pool rental bookings skip the Meet~N~Greet evaluation required for daycare and the hotel.

The rest of the resort

Alongside training there is a five-star pet hotel, an Enrichment Daycare program described as "Macomb County's first Full-Day structured Daycare Program that uses fun, mind-engaging activities and purposeful play to strengthen confidence, good behavior and self-control," a grooming salon presented as "Metro Detroit's first Certified Fear Free Grooming Enrichment Spa," and an indoor heated aquatic center. An Unleash'd membership program offers priority booking and reduced daycare rates. Phone: 586-566-8900.
