About Cahoots Dog Training

Built around taking the dog with you

Cahoots Dog Training publishes the line "Explore Life Together" and frames its work around access: "Whether it's sitting on a brewery patio, strolling through the city, going for a paddle, or taking off in the backcountry – we'll get your pup ready to tagalong too!" The site states that "Kate is a Training Without Conflict Certified Professional Trainer based in the Greater Grand Rapids, MI area."

Method

The published method is balanced: "Using a balanced training approach, Kate understands the value of tools in their specific appropriate situations; such as prong collars for on-leash directional communication and e-collars for off-leash connection. These tools are fairly introduced and contextually used." The TWC methodology is described as one that "respects the dog as a sentient being and values their mindset above all else – cultivating happy, engaged dogs."

Programs and prices

Three programs are published. Individual Sessions are held "at your home or a nearby park," scheduled "in 1 hour increments" at "$100- /session" with a "Minimum initial purchase of 3 sessions required." Day Training keeps the dog home at night; package options are listed at "5 Days: $750-", "10 Days: $1,250-" and "20 Days: $2,300-", with a "1 hour Owner 'Catch Up' Lesson offered after every 5 days of training." Adventure Training is "focusing on adventure-specific training and prep" and requires "a reliable general obedience foundation (sit, down, place/stay, out, leave it, come, heel)." A 10% discount is published "for all military, fire, and police."

What it does not offer

The site states plainly: "We are not offering a Stay and Train program at this time. We highly recommend Grace at Red Sky Dog Training for this service option." Day Training is "Only available for dogs that are cat and dog friendly, no exceptions," and all dogs must be current on rabies, bordetella and distemper vaccines and flea and tick medication.
