About Capital Canine Dog Training

Capital Canine Dog Training is a Columbus board-and-train–focused trainer using a balanced approach grounded in behavioral psychology.

How they train

Balanced training — reading the dog's body language and pairing verbal cues with behavioral psychology, rather than positioning itself as purely positive or e-collar-based.

Programs

Board-and-train programs, boarding, park time, and behavior modification.

Who it’s best for

Best for owners who want a board-and-train with a balanced, psychology-based method. Less ideal if you want in-home training, a force-free approach, or published pricing.

What they can help with

Your dog stays with the trainer for an immersive, multi-week program.
Behavior modification for unwanted or problem habits.

We were referred to Capital Canine by our friends in the dog community when we expressed wanting to help Banksy improve with his anxiety and help us create a toolkit for better ways to communicate with him. This experience has enhanced our understanding with Banksy through practice that leverages positive reinforcement and consistency in order to unlock a new level of communication.nnWe have been through many different types of training programs over the last 7 years, and never have we ever looked back on an experience feeling so confident. Leaving our first conversation with Kevin, we immediately had established trust in his philosophy because of how deeply he understood our challenges and goals. We felt seen and heard, and also appreciated his understanding towards Banksy and his commitment to wanting to see him succeed. Every training practice was focused on increasing Banksyu2019s freedom rather than restriction or punishment. His patience and positive approach was very effective for Banksy despite his previous behavioral challenges.nnWe would highly recommend Kevin to anyone, but especially pups that can be more challenging and are in need of behavioral specialization. Kevin – Thank you for everything! Looking forward to the park days!

Iu2019m BEYOND THANKFUL that I found Kevin at Capital Canine when I did! He is absolutely phenomenal and canu2019t recommend enough!! I have a 5 year old Australian Shepherd who severely struggled with dog and people reactivity to the point we were struggling to leave the house or have any guests at our house. I was very hesitant to start a training program as I have heard from other peopleu2019s experiences at different programs that they didnu2019t have much success and Luna was any older dog. After having a consultation with Kevin, who was able to meet Luna and answer all my questions and concerns, I decided to go through with the training.nnLuna attended the 4 week board & train program along with follow up lessons teaching me everything she had learned. It was so important to me to find someone that would not just train Luna, but also train me so she could continue to be successful at home in her everyday environment. Luna was able to go from barely being able to walk in a small neighborhood with mass amounts of barking and lunging to areas with HUGE distractions like downtown Columbus in only a few weeks.nnNow we can freely go on walks, car rides, and new parks and environments without any worry. This is a decision I made wish I would have made years ago, but I really canu2019t say enough how grateful I am for everyone at Capital Canine!!

Kevin and his team, at Capital Canine, changed my life in such a positive way! I rescued a sweet wild pup, Birdie, when she was 4 months old. She was like a feral cat u2026 They kept her outside, she had no direction or love, had never been in a house, was sickly, and she was pretty darn wild! I was beginning to wonder if I could handle her energy and frankly handle her in general.nnI interviewed a handful of dog trainers and as soon as I talked with Kevin I knew he was our trainer. Kevin has such a strong but also calming energy. My wild pup and I needed this energy and his direction.nnKevinu2019s training and teachings allowed Birdie and I to stay together. Wow!! What a difference 10 days plus boarding made.nnBirdie is now 8 months old and we continue to work with Kevin and also use his boarding services. Birdie hears Kevinu2019s training videos, on Instagram, and immediately knows his voice and sits to listen.nnI love my Birdie-Girl and am thrilled to have a happier and much calmer life with her now.nnThank you Kevin!nnTracy & Birdie

Kevin at Capital Canine is a class act.nnI consulted with Kevin after adopting a dog from Columbus Humane. My intention was to train this dog sufficiently enough to set him up well for being trained officially as my service dog to assist with my C-PTSD exacerbations.nnKevin listened intently to my needs, requests, and desires for what I wanted from my life with my dog. We talked philosophy, the nature of a dog, what needs he inherently had, and how aligning our needs would provide the foundation for our partnership together.nnRemington had significant behavioral improvements that needed immediate attention, and Kevin was forthcoming with his estimates for the amount of time it would take. I agreed to the three week training program at his advice, and I couldnu2019t be happier with the results. Remy is a different dog, and although we still had some difficulties, he has morphed into the companion i always wanted but never knew I needed. I canu2019t imagine life without him now.nnWe have ridden on trains and cars and buses together. We spent two weeks hiking 150 miles through Oregon on the Pacific Crest Trail with our own backpacks and sleeping bags. We go on a new adventure every day together, and he has saved our lives on a couple occasions.nnKevinu2019s commitment to his craft is evident from his responsiveness to your first contact, through the interview and matching process, to his commitment in following up and providing enrichment for months after training has ended. This is evidence of his commitment to a quality product. He cares that the owner and the dog have the best relationship moving forward, while remaining sensitive to the needs and wants of the owner.nnI couldnu2019t recommend a trainer more.nnIf you would like to follow Remington in all his adventures, he can be found on Instagram @BarkPackRemy

Capital Canine is worth every single penny. We have an older girl, Maggie (almost nine) who had extremely negative behavior around other dogs. This was from being cooped up during Covid and a few dogs attacking while being on leash. Needless to say walk were anxiety filled.nWe were moving to a place where her behavior needed to change QUICKLY. We were living out of state and Kevin lined everything up perfectly so we could just drop her off once we got in town. Such a breeze knowing that stress was taken off our shoulders.nDuring her stay Kevin was extremely communicative and would send regular updates. She was already familiar with a pinch collar. She has since been using an ecollar and muzzle when needed. Also, she knows so many more commands and is over all the dog we want.nnMaggie is now our perfect pooch! We talk her on walks with zero anxiety. We are even able to take her to restaurants and helpfully can work up to the busy farmers market.nnKevin is so kind and a pleasure to work with. We will definitely be taking out next dog to be trained by him as well.nnThanks to Kevin turns out you can teach an old dog new tricks!
