About Dog Obedience College

Dog Obedience College has, in its own words, "Since 2013 … proudly served the greater Memphis, Tennessee area providing highly reliable dog training", and has more recently expanded to Holland and West Michigan.

The idea behind the name

The curriculum metaphor is deliberate: "Just as colleges and universities equip students with essential skills, we do the same for dogs. Our Certified Trainers use real-life distractions and situations to teach your pup the obedience and manners needed for a happy and well-behaved life in your world." The founder's stated belief is that "when distractions are at their highest that's when obedience and manners are needed most" – and the site makes the point by listing the moment that usually sends someone looking for a trainer: the dog pulling on lead, jumping on a neighbor, running out the door, not coming when called, growling at somebody.

Courses and formats

Basic Obedience and Advanced Off Leash are both offered four ways – In-Home, Board and Train, Hybrid, or one-to-one classes – with puppies able to start from four months. There is also a Walk and Recall Essentials course narrowed to three things: "walking nicely on leash, a recall, and no jumping". Behavioral problem solving is offered separately, and evaluations are free: "Not sure which program is right for your dog? No problem, we can help."

What else they publish

The site advertises a Lifetime Dog Training Guarantee, and gives a separate Memphis line, 901-310-5826, from the Michigan number. Their published Memphis service area includes Germantown, Lakeland, Cordova and Collierville. Ask about prices at the free evaluation.
