About Doyle’s Farm Kennels
Retriever gun dogs and pet obedience
Doyle's Farm Kennels is a retriever gun dog training kennel at 3522 Doyles Farm Rd in Groveland, owned and operated by Jerod Newman and his wife Amanda. Its main focus is retriever gun dogs that perform in the field, plus pet obedience. Jerod started training to get a quality retriever for the dove field, became active in a local retriever club and has competed in hunt tests from Started/Junior to Finished/Master. Dogs train on hundreds of acres of land and water, from technical ponds to flooded timber and marshes, and the kennel is about 45 minutes from the Orlando airport.
Training stages
Puppy Head Start begins around 12 weeks with basic commands, gunfire, live birds and marks. Started Gun Dog covers formal obedience, collar conditioning and force fetch (average 20 weeks). Handling Gun Dog builds steadiness, double marks and blind retrieves (average 40 weeks). Finished Gun Dog prepares dogs for AKC field trials and Master hunt tests, and a Pre-Season Tune-up gets retrievers back in shape before hunting season.
Pet obedience
A 4-week basic on-leash program covers sit, down, place, recall, leash manners and greetings, and a 6-week advanced program adds off-leash control.
