About Hillside Kennels
What this kennel offers
Hillside Kennels sits on more than five acres off State Highway 23, which the site describes as about five miles outside Oneonta. It runs four things: boarding, daycare, grooming and training. The training is not a sideline on the price list — it has its own section of the services page with its own published rates — but it is worth knowing that most of the business is boarding and grooming, and that the training is sold as private lessons rather than as a class schedule you can drop into.
Training programs
The published training product is "Private Obedience & Behavioral Training", split in two. Basic obedience covers sit, stay, recall and leash walking, offered on site at Hillside or in the client's home when the weather allows, and the site names puppies, rescues and "dogs needing a reset" as the dogs it suits. Behavioral issue support is the harder half: the site names reactivity and separation anxiety specifically, says it begins with a consultation and a behavior assessment, is built case by case, is billed hourly, and takes place at the dog's home "where the behavior occurs". The home page also describes the offer as "structured obedience classes focused on foundational skills". Every dog trained is said to receive lifelong maintenance support.
Prices
Hillside is one of the few businesses in this area that publishes training rates outright. Basic obedience training is listed at $50.00 per hour, behavioral issues training at $65.00 per hour, both plus travel fees, with a card-payment rate shown alongside each. Boarding is $25.00 a day and daycare, 9 AM to 4 PM, is $18.00 a day, with extras such as added playtime and daily photo updates priced separately. Grooming is quoted by breed and coat; a nail trim is listed at $15.00.
Who runs it
The site says Hillside Kennels has operated since 1999 and that ownership transitioned in 2024 to Kelley Miller, who is described on the site as holding a Bachelor's Degree in Canine Training & Management and who leads all of the training personally. The site also says the on-site groomer has over twenty years of experience.
Practical notes
Hours are short and posted: Monday to Friday 9 AM to 4 PM and Saturday 9 AM to 11 AM, closed Sunday, and the site asks you to call ahead rather than drop in. There are no live kennel cameras; the site offers regular updates instead.
