About Jack’s Legacy

Jack's Legacy is on US-79 in Dover, the Stewart County seat out toward Land Between the Lakes, and it is the only training operation on this page based west of Montgomery County. For anyone in Dover, Indian Mound or the lake country it is the local option rather than a forty-minute drive into Clarksville.

Where it came from

The owner tells the story directly: "My journey began in 2009, when I started training my own reactive dog, Max." That dog led to the work, and a later service dog named Jack gave the business its name. The published experience is stated as fifteen years – "In my 15 years of training dogs I have custom created these programs" – and the stated philosophy puts the owner at the center of the training rather than the trainer.

Programs

Day-train programs are organized by age and by behavior, and the site directs you to read the descriptions before choosing between them. Private lessons are the other main route: "Our private lessons are perfect for owners who want to train their own dog with professional guidance." – described as do-it-yourself training with a coach, with hands-on instruction, homework and access to a video library so the work continues at home. Board and train is offered as "4 Week Programs" and "6 Week Programs", described as a "Program to set good solid foundations and to help with problems.", with payment plans accepted. Group classes are sold through the site's own booking system.

Service dogs and veterans

This is the part that matters most in a military county. "All potential Service dog teams must go through an assessment to be accepted into our program." – service-dog work here is gated on an assessment rather than sold off the shelf. And the business publishes a standing commitment: "All 100% Disabled Veterans that need a Service Dog will receive training to them at No cost." with help finding a suitable dog if the veteran's own dog does not meet the requirements.

Testing and the rest of the site

AKC Family Dog testing is offered across the range – STAR Puppy, Canine Good Citizen, CGC Advanced and "CGC Advanced Urban". The business also runs grooming, boarding and day boarding at the same site; those are services it sells, but they are not dog training and they are not counted in the service list above.
