About K9 Command

K9 Command has been training dogs in Vale since 1994, from a site on NC 18 close to South Mountains State Park. It is one of the more substantial training operations in the western foothills: a 4,000 square foot indoor training room at the main site, plus eight and a half acres of outdoor training fields a mile and a half away.

What you can book here

The programs are published as an age-based ladder. Puppies covers dogs from ten to sixteen weeks. Basic Obedience takes dogs from sixteen weeks up. The business's own most popular program is Basic & Advanced Obedience, also from sixteen weeks. Private Lessons and Board and Train are published separately, with several board-and-train options. The stated outcome across all of it is control on or off the leash regardless of breed or age.

The thing that makes it unusual

Support does not end with the program. The site describes "one price for the life of the dog" – lifetime support included in what you pay up front. That is rare anywhere and worth asking about specifically, because it changes the arithmetic on an expensive program.

The approach

The emphasis is explicitly on coaching the owner, not just the dog: "Many trainers are great with dogs but lack the passion of also coaching owners… Creating confident and knowledgeable dog owners establishes a relationship between dog and owner that has long term stability and reliability." The business also says it has been recommended by veterinarians across Lincoln, Catawba, Burke, Gaston and Cleveland counties for several decades.

Who runs it

K9 Command was founded in 1994 by Mark Connolly and Amy Connolly, who met as students at West Virginia Canine College and married a year later. The site lists AKC and UKC Approved Evaluator status, describes Mark as Secretary of the IACP Legislative Committee, and says he has certified dogs to NAPWDA national standards and taught police K9 officers to handle and train their partners. None of those bodies maintains a North Carolina registry, so all of them stand as the business's own claims.

Who it’s best for

Best for owners across Lincoln, Catawba, Burke, Gaston and Cleveland counties who want a thirty-year-old business with real indoor and outdoor facilities, and who value lifetime follow-up over the lowest headline price.

What they can help with

Early socialization, house-training and first manners for young dogs.
Sit, stay, recall and reliable commands, from beginner to advanced.
Your dog stays with the trainer for an immersive, multi-week program.
Calming a dog that barks or lunges at other dogs or people while on leash.
