About Rattlesnake Alert LLC
Rattlesnake aversion training
Rattlesnake Alert LLC offers rattlesnake aversion training for dogs in the Millcreek area of Salt Lake City, based at 2827 S 2300 E. Trainer Mike Parmley mentored under Web Parton, developer of the Snake Safe method, at venues in Utah. The goal is for a dog to recognize a rattlesnake by sight, sound and above all smell, avoid it, and ideally alert its owner.
How the class works
Sessions take a maximum of six dogs and last three to four hours. Live, de-fanged rattlesnakes of at least two species are used so dogs can safely see the snake move, hear the rattle and learn its scent. Once a dog can identify a rattlesnake, a low-level stimulation from an e-collar simulates a bite, with care taken so the dog links it to the snake rather than the person or place, followed by a final test. Dogs must be over 6 months old and current on rabies, distemper, parvo and bordetella vaccinations.
Prices
Group classes are $200 per dog, with a minimum of 2 and maximum of 6 dogs. Private training for very dog- or human-aggressive dogs is $250 for one dog or $400 for two, and private group classes for 4 or more dogs are $200 per dog.
