About Red River North Dog Obedience Club
What they offer
Red River North Dog Obedience Club is a nonprofit, AKC-licensed club founded in 1999 to promote the training of all dogs, purebred and mixed breed. It runs dog training classes for residents of the Fargo-Moorhead area at its training center on 3rd Avenue North in Fargo, in sessions of several weeks through the year, with registration online or by email.
Classes
Puppy kindergarten follows the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy program, teaching socialization with puppies and people and the commands sit, wait, down, stay and come, with advice on housetraining and behavior problems. Beginning obedience teaches sit, stay, down, heel and stand and how to read the dog's body language, and advanced beginners, novice and competition classes build toward AKC obedience titles and introduce off-leash handling. Classes also prepare for the AKC Canine Good Citizen test, which the club offers periodically.
Dog sports
Rally classes run from novice on-leash courses to advanced off-leash competition, agility classes go from beginning obstacle work to competitive course strategy after a screening evaluation, and scent work is offered at foundation and advanced levels.
Method
The club says it uses positive, motivational training and reinforcement techniques. Class sizes are limited, so ask about the next session.
