About Rosie Dane Dog Training
About
Rosie Dane Dog Training runs a group-class curriculum out of a facility at 5117 Old Heady Road. Its
pitch is deliberately narrow: "Some trainers get awfully carried away with the amount of commands they
aim to teach. We don't find that teaching your dog the dictionary is any more effective than a few
simple, all-encompassing commands that directly affect a dog's behavior."
Those commands are five: Manners, Focus, Sit/Down/Stay, Heeling and Recall.
Classes are 90 minutes and deliberately run in distraction: "90 minute class sessions in real-world
scenarios achieve results typically unheard of. These classes aren't like what you see at a pet store.
EVERYONE has control over their dog and we have REAL solutions to REAL problems."
The curriculum
The adult curriculum is an orientation, eight group lessons and a graduation across ten weeks, with
45-75 minutes a day of homework recommended. The site states that at the end "over 80% of students are
able to obtain both their Canine Good Citizen certificate and pass the AKC Novice Obedience
requirements." Orientations are held monthly and have no dogs present — owners and handlers only.
Students may retake the entire curriculum later, free of charge.
Behavior work is taken on without triage: "Whether it's trauma, timidity, a feral dog, or aggression,
we work with it all. No one is ever 'failed'." All reactivity appointments are held at the facility,
on the stated logic that "You can't fix 'dog aggression' unless you train your dog around other dogs."
