About Species K9 Dog Training
Science-based training from Hewitt
Species K9 Dog Training is based at 205 Chama Drive in Hewitt and serves Waco, Woodway, Temple and the broader Central Texas region, plus virtual clients. Trainer Jared describes a science-based approach rooted in applied behavior analysis, with positive reinforcement at the core and the LIMA (Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive) standard: the least intrusive methods come first, and corrective tools are used only when necessary and after a thorough assessment. Species K9 specializes in behavioral challenges and aggression.
Foundation Style training
Training moves through three phases: marking behaviors and teaching what commands mean, then building obedience around distractions, then off-leash work and full reliability with higher distractions. Owners get a workbook, training log and filmed homework that the trainer critiques by video. Most clients reach phase 3 within 14 to 16 in-person sessions with daily practice.
Services and prices
Services include dog and puppy selection, basic, advanced and off-leash obedience, housebreaking, behavior and aggression training, and protection training. A Bite Club controlled-aggression package follows phase 3. A 4-session private package with virtual follow-ups is $775, single in-person or virtual sessions are $95, and an online consultation is $50, credited toward training. Sessions run in the client's home, at the Hewitt facility or in public places.
What owners say
One client wrote that after one session "our dog lays in his crate, feels more confident."
