About The Pawsitive Professor

The Pawsitive Professor is a one-person in-home practice: "Certified Dog Trainer and Puppy Training Expert based in Franklin, TN. Offering in-home lessons in Williamson County, Davidson County, Maury County and beyond."

Who runs it

Lisa Ann Carlson. The credentials are stated in a short list rather than a biography: "Lisa Ann Carlson has more than 20 years of hands-on experience training dogs." "Graduated from The Academy for Dog Trainers with Honors." "Dedicated to continuing her education through workshops, seminars & conferences." "Commited to humane, science-based, positive reinforcement techniques so your dog will love learning." And one that is genuinely distinguishing: "Skilled in working with children & their dogs, with a background in early-childhood education."

Three areas of work

The site organizes itself around problems rather than programs. Good Dog Manners is for the dog that "is counter surfing, jumping on guests, won't come when called, barking at passersby, or just not following the house rules". Puppy Training is the claim she leans on hardest: "No dog trainer in Middle Tennessee has more experience working with puppies and all their shenanigans." Fearful Dogs is the third, and the copy names what it covers: "The Pawsitive Professor has dedicated herself to helping dogs with noise sensitivity, nervousness around people, and general anxiety issues."

Prices

Published in full. "Initial training consultation (2 hours) for $285", then "Individual one-hour training session for $165", "Package of 3 one-hour training sessions for $465", or "Package of 6 one-hour training sessions for $825". The page adds that "Every client starts out with an INITIAL CONSULTATION before any individual or packaged priced lessons", and mentions day training for owners who are at work.

A note on the source

The site is small – four pages, a 2017 copyright line – and there is no board-and-train, no facility and no group class anywhere on it. What is published is consistent and specific, which is worth more than volume.

What they can help with

Early socialization, house-training and first manners for young dogs.
Sit, stay, recall and reliable commands, from beginner to advanced.
Behavior modification for unwanted or problem habits.
Sessions in your own home, where many behavior problems actually happen.
