Breakthrough K9 Training works exclusively in immersive board and train programs. It is based in Mechanicsville and serves dog owners throughout the greater Richmond area. Dogs stay on a 20-acre farm with a climate-controlled kennel, three lighted turf play yards and an indoor training room set up like a living space, with staff on site from 7:00am to 10:30pm.

Programs and prices

Programs run 2, 3, 4 or 5 weeks, published at $2,675, $3,075, $3,775 and $4,575. The shorter programs target foundational obedience and manners. The 4-week program is aimed at reactivity, anxiety or stubborn patterns, and the 5-week program at severe behavior issues or aggression. Training covers sit, down, stay, recall and place, plus impulse control, leash manners and structured socialization.

Behavior work

The site lists reactivity and fear-based behavior, resource guarding and threshold problems, and dog-on-dog or dog-on-human aggression, which is accepted case by case. Special-needs dogs are also taken on. Dog boarding is offered separately.

Method

The site says operant conditioning is the backbone of the training, with a low trainer-to-dog ratio, short sessions and real-world outings.
