About Grace Pomeroy Training

What they offer

Grace Pomeroy Training is a positive reinforcement dog training business serving Portland and nearby towns such as South Portland, Cape Elizabeth, Scarborough, Westbrook, Falmouth, Cumberland and Yarmouth. The trainer is a Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner and fear-free certified, and follows the least intrusive, minimally aversive approach.

How it works

Training starts with a consultation in the owner's home, which includes a full history, observation of the dog, hands-on work and a written plan. Private coaching sessions then take place in the home, singly or in bundles, with support between sessions. A day training program brings the trainer to the home twice a week to work one-on-one with the dog, plus a weekly coaching session with the owner and field trips once the dog is ready; the business recommends it for puppies under 18 weeks.

What it covers

Puppy work covers house training, biting, barking, jumping, crate training, healthy socialization, grooming desensitization, resource guarding prevention and basic manners. For older dogs, sessions address leash pulling, barking and lunging on leash, resource guarding, fear of strangers, dog reactivity, handling, greetings and recall. Group classes have been offered in the past but are not running at present.
