About The Obedience Center

A straightforward class schedule in Rolling Meadows

The Obedience Center sets a modest, practical goal on its home page: "We want to help you train a dog you can live with." It serves the northwest suburbs from 2105 Hicks Road in Rolling Meadows, and offers a free phone consultation before enrolling.

The class ladder

Four levels are described. Puppy/Beginner is for puppies and dogs over 12 weeks and requires two distemper/parvo combination shots, with kennel cough vaccination "highly recommended"; it covers socialization, puppy agility and the early problems — "mouthing, jumping, leash pulling are addressed right away!" Beginners covers basic commands and house manners for dogs "still jumping, pulling and may be leash reactive," working on walking on leash, stays and recalls. Advanced Puppy/Beginners/CGC/TDI Prep is for dogs that have already taken a class, adds better heeling, recalls and some agility, and offers the Canine Good Citizen test at graduation; the site calls it an "Ideal prep class for Therapy Dog class!" Advanced 2 is for dogs that have completed an advanced class and covers off-lead heeling and Rally-O exercises, with the note that "Your dog may be ready for Novice or Rallye."

Format and cost

Classes run six weeks, meet once a week and last one hour. The published fall schedule prices classes at $150.00, with Advanced 2 listed at $125 for 6 weeks. Payment options listed are cash, checks and Zelle, with checks sent to Mary Dependahl at the Rolling Meadows address. The site makes a point of the value of in-person group work over in-home training, noting of the puppy class's socialization and agility that "You can't get this from an In Home Trainer!"
