About Beaches Pet Resort & Training Center

Who they are

Beaches Pet Resort & Training Center is at 29335 Harper Ave, Saint Clair Shores. The owners have been "in the Pet Industry Since 1995" and opened Beaches itself in 2014, building on experience "in Training and Behavior, In-Home Pet Care and supporting and Rehabilitating Rescued and Foster dogs." They describe the site as "a smaller boutique facility" and contrast it with the chains: "Beaches Pet Resort isn't like your everyday pet care franchise. We pride ourselves on our 'Mom and Pop' business model."

Training

Training and behavior is a named division, not a sideline: "Our focus is on building your relationship with your best friend. Instruction on Dog Behavior, how dogs think, how to build a relationship, as well as obedience skills are all a part of our class instruction." Formats listed are classes, a Day Train & Pawsitive Enrichment program, board and train, and in-home training. Site updates announced Therapy Dog classes and a new Trick Dog class, and the business notes it was voted Best Training Center in the 2021 Best of St. Clair Shores Awards.

The rest of the facility

Alongside training, Beaches runs Day Socialization (daycare), boarding for dogs, cats and small animals, grooming, and chiropractic care by Advanced Animal Chiropractic. In-home pet care is provided under the A Pet's Pal name in the Grosse Pointe and St. Clair Shores areas. Play is supervised by staff called Lifeguards and Canine Coaches "trained in off-leash dog play, canine body language and dog behavior," with structured play, individual stainless bowls sanitized each evening, and a no-collar rule during play: "We also play 'naked' here at the facility which means no collars or harnesses left on dogs during play. These items can be dangerous during play and can lead to injury." Hours are 6:30am-6:30pm weekdays and 9:00am-5:00pm weekends and holidays.
