About Good Manners Dog Training

A solo trainer working in clients' homes and out in public

Good Manners Dog Training is written throughout in the first person, and the about page names the trainer: "My name is Asia Poe, and I am the owner of Good Manners Dog Training! Since 2019, I have helped countless families in the Chicago area learn to build stronger connections with their dogs." The framing is communication rather than command drilling: "I teach my clients how to open up a clear line of communication between themselves and their dogs in order to develop a relationship fostering guidance, leadership, and fun!"

Four services

In Home Lessons, for dogs at least 16 weeks old, work on leash manners, focused heel, polite greetings, reliable stay, come, leave it and drop it, off leash training and door manners, in the place where the problems actually happen. The Puppy Program takes puppies from 8 to 20 weeks and covers socialization, potty and crate training, play biting, grooming, creating a routine and age-appropriate expectations. Field Trips are one-to-one outings to parks, stores, farmers markets and other busy places, to make trained behavior hold up under distraction. Group Classes are monthly group outings with other clients, led through games and exercises that keep dogs focused on their owners in public.

How it runs

The published path is a free consultation to set goals and a plan, then a first in-home lesson, then progression to working around distractions on walks and field trips, sometimes with the trainer's own dog brought along as a distraction. The stated end point is unusual for the trade: "The ultimate goal is for you to gain the skills to become a confident leader for your dog, and to no longer need my services as often."

What she takes on

Beyond general manners and advanced obedience, the site says she works with dogs that are under socialized or that show leash reactivity, resource guarding and fear-based aggression. This is a mobile practice serving the Chicago area, with contact by phone or email.
