About Hamilton Dog Training Club Inc

Heritage

Hamilton Dog Training Club (HDTC) is a long-standing nonprofit that marked its 70th anniversary in 2024, making it one of the most established training organizations in the area. Its teaching model is owner-education first: "We train you to train your dog," with the aim of improving the dog-owner relationship rather than handing dogs off for correction.

Classes & sports

The club covers both pet and competition obedience and a full slate of dog sports: agility, rally, conformation, nose work, and therapy dog visits. Group classes run four or five nights a week in the club's own facility, with special weekend events, so there's a steady schedule for owners who want ongoing involvement. Instructors are described as people who teach, attend classes and seminars themselves, and train and show their own dogs, signaling sport-experienced volunteers, though no formal certifications (CPDT, etc.) are claimed on the page. As a nonprofit club focused on classes and competition, it's an excellent fit for owners wanting AKC-style sports and obedience community, less so for one-on-one board-and-train or serious behavior rehab.

What they can help with

Sit, stay, recall and reliable commands, from beginner to advanced.
Agility & Sport
Agility training: handling, obstacles and confidence-building.
Therapy Dog Training
Prep to visit hospitals, schools and care homes as a certified therapy dog.

I had such a wonderful experience at Hamilton Dog Training Club (HDTC). I first took my Staffordshire when she was 6 months old. She was such a hard puppy for me and I was not prepared for the stubbornness and drive she has. HDTC has wonderful staff and trainers, with patience and empathy for both the dog and the owner. They helped me develop a relationship with my dog when I thought she was untrainable. Really the issue wasn’t her it was me. They taught me how to be a leader and ultimately trained me how to train my puppy. She is now 3 years old and is a wonderful family member.

HDTC has plenty of room for the classes taught. Stick to it and go through all 3 levels of obedience. You won’t regret it. I will forever take my puppies through the classes.

I was at a dog obedience trial today at this facility. The trial secretary and others is very rude and abrupt. The facility is adequate for one class at a time. I guess. But the staff of this place is on another planet. Stay away and go to Queen City or Kathy Cooks facility in Georgetown Ohio. Ms Maess is the queen of rudeness.

I trialed 2 of my dogs at Hamilton for rally obedience. The venue was clean, organized, and I felt safe on the premises. I would highly recommend!

Attended puppy training class, never to dog training before. Facility appropriate, specifically instructed on my responsibility in maintaining cleanliness of it. Volunteer instructors knowledgeable, friendly, obviously
passionate about dogs and raising a happy puppy. Specific classroom criteria and homework. Open to all questions with helpful suggestions. Definitely worthwhile. Initial contact/enrollment some difficulty in reaching right person.
