About A New Leash on Life – School for Dogs

Who they are

A New Leash on Life – School for Dogs is run by Vince, whose route into training came through rescue: "The inception of A New Leash on Life – School for Dogs was fueled by a passionate commitment to curbing the influx of dogs into shelters. Witnessing the heartbreaking reality of overflowing shelters and the unfortunate euthanization of countless dogs each year inspired him to take action." His stated training background includes certificates from Tarheel Canine and the Michael Ellis School for Dog Trainers, two week-long apprentice programs with Blake Rodriguez of Dream Come True K9, and a week-long apprentice program with Method K9.

Programmes

The business is board-and-train led, with published prices. A 4-week board and train is $3,750 for dogs at least six months old showing "knucklehead" behaviors such as jumping, puppy nipping, chewing and digging; it includes $350 of equipment, unlimited private lessons and solid on-leash obedience. The 6-week program, marked the most popular option, is $4,997 and adds off-leash obedience plus rehabilitation for mild separation anxiety, reactivity, resource guarding, stranger danger and fear in new environments. The 8-week program is $6,497 and is aimed at dogs needing "mild to severe rehabilitation: bite history, intense reactivity, intense anxiety, fighting housemates." A six-week Canine Immersion Program — "your dog is incorporated into our lifestyle throughout the entirety of their stay," with multiple walks, training sessions, playtimes and bike rides — was listed as sold out with a waitlist, and includes four private lessons after the dog returns home plus lifetime access to a client-only community with 60+ videos.
