About All About Dogs

Established and well-referred

All About Dogs has a long track record in Cincinnati, with the site stating it was "established in 1994" and has operated "over 30 years" with "over 7,000 satisfied clients." It also leans on professional referrals, noting it is "referred by many of the top veterinarians in the city, including Eastgate Animal Hospital, Lewis Animal Hospital, and Cincinnati Care Center." Those referral relationships are a meaningful trust signal for a training business.

Thin on specifics

Beyond longevity and referrals, the website is sparse: it doesn't detail the specific services, class types, training philosophy, certifications, or setting. The page functions as a basic homepage with contact information (4008 Holbrook Ave, 513-231-5959) but leaves the program structure unexplained. Owners interested in this trainer will need to call to learn what's actually offered, how training is delivered, and what methods are used. The three-decade history and veterinary referrals make it worth a conversation, but the site itself doesn't provide enough to compare it in detail against more transparent listings.

What they can help with

Sit, stay, recall and reliable commands, from beginner to advanced.

John is excellent at what he does from the very first encounter. I could immediately tell he had years of experience working with dogs. I chose to have John take my dog home with him to accelerate the process, I wouldn’t do it another way after seeing the results. Great experience!

John trained a German shepherd puppy for us as a service dog. He went above and beyond to meet our needs and did an absolutely amazing job training both us and the dog. Very highly recommend All About Dogs!

John (no relation) is an expert dog trainer and has trained three (large) dogs for us. The transformation he works with the dogs is close to miraculous–ours have gone from disobedient puppies to following basic obedience commands in a week. That is worth it and changes your relationship with your pet. He does an equally terrific job training owners how to interact and take control of their dogs. Having used other trainers, we can vouch that his methods work, while other approaches seem too complicated and did not work for us in the long term.

You can spot dogs John has trained on your walks. They are well trained, heeling on the owner's left, sitting at every stop, eyes always checking their owners–not the dogs leading their owners on a retractable tether.

I read another review's concern, and I can say John made completely clear to us that his board-and-train program involved him taking our dog to his home. It lives with him for the week, so this is not a surprise.

John is honest and forthright. Our experience was very positive, and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend him.

John was referred to me by satisfied friends and vets as the best trainer in the area. He has lived up to every expectation and we continue to go weekly for follow up training. I would recommend him to anyone who wants their dog trained properly. My father has used his also with his new puppy.
